Can a single player play double? Can a double player play single?

If Roger Federer team up with Rafael Nadal can they beat the Brian brothers? If the Brian brothers decide to play single can they win matches or they will lose in the first round at major tournament? Which is easier....for a single player to play double or for a double player to play single?

Can a single player play double? Can a double player play single?
The Bryan bros. have played singles. They played quite abit earlier and less and less now as they have gotten more focused on doubles and much more successful with doubles. Here are their old numbers from 98 - 03

Lower down on the page you'll see that they both have beaten some good singles players but also it was earlier in those guys careers as well. I would give the edge to Bob (1 inch taller and the leftie) having beat Ginepri, Dent, Fish, Davydenko, Mirnyi and Henman. Mike has beaten Fish, Blake, Dent, Pioline %26amp; Goldstein.

There doubles wins are much more impressive.

It is difficult for a singles player who is used to solely relying on himself to play a team sport like doubles. My doubles partner and I have beaten players in doubles that have beaten us in singles because singles %26amp; doubles are two completely different game. Hope this helps.
Reply:Different toolbox for playing singles and doubles. Federer + Nadal wouldn't beat Bryan + Bryan in doubles, nor could a Bryan beat a Federer/Nadal in singles.

It can be just as hard switching from singles to doubles as it is vice versa. However, usually the more talented players focus on singles (for more prestige, money) and with their talent it's easier for them to switch to doubles. That's why there are more top singles players that are good doubles player (McEnroe, Navratilova, Kafelnikov) than the other way around.
Reply:I don't see how you can compare- they're two completely different styles of playing.
Reply:single player can play doubles
