Do single people get a raw deal from the government?

I hate to be a moaner but as a single person i dont get priority for a house from the council cause i dont have kids im on a long waiting. list I as a working tax payer get to pay toward married couples tax credits family allowance, fathers paternity leave etc etc etc i appreciate that its my choice to remain single but i would like to ask the government what do you do for us single taxpayers I have NEVER claimed dole money because i always worked

As a working single parent I reckon I get just as hard a deal. I choose to work rather than claim dole money but women who dont work get so much help from the government that they wont even consider getting a job. I think we need a radical shake up of the system to change peoples mind sets. We have produced a nation of people who just expect it on a plate, we have to change that so that it is worth while for people to work. Cut certain benefits and put people higher on the housing list if they have a job, dont take drugs, are at least trying to get money out of absent fathers. I usually am a wooly minded liberal, but when it comes to this, I see society going down the tubes because people don't take fecking responsibility for their own lives!

Reply:Ok I am a mother, I live with my husband and we own our own home, we got NO help from the goverment as we earn over what they class as a decent wage (£15k apparently and that is per household not per person). I would be better of on my own, I would get free dental care, free glasses, free perscriptions, milk vouchers, free school meals, fruit and veg vouchers, money towards school uniform....... the list goes on and on!





There is nothing to encourage the fmaily unit. We both work (don't get help with childcare unlike some) and pay taxes and have done all our lifes.





Pre kids we got nothing either but that didn't bother me.

im a mum but even i cant get a council house, im only entitled to child tax credits. and i work - and my partner works, so we feel like we are paying for our own tax credits if ya like! its not beign rewarded for having a baby - a child is very costly so the help is there! you dont know how much until you have your own children


my mates sister gets everyting, she got a council house straight away, housing benefit, child tax creidts working tax credits income support! that girl is basically loaded - she doesnt work - she just relies on the government. its people like that who need to be stopped, not honest people like me and my partner who have to work to keep ourselves a float!! we choose to work as well - i went back to work 3 months after i had my son and i find it important to work!


i find people who dont work, and claim everything under the sun have no morals or any respect for themselves


young girls get themselves pregnant to get a council house - and they do it because they know they can, that the council will give them a council house.
Reply:You should try being divorced, self employed and paying a mortgage, then you'll know who's getting a raw deal. I get nothing from the government, but they take my tax, national insurance every year. and if I'm off sick or the phone doesn't ring, well that's my tough luck, the government wont offer any help at all.
Reply:I do have some sympathy for you - but only some. If we didn't have to pay such high taxes, we'd all earn less.


And will you still be single in ten years time????
Reply:I would totally agree except it's not just singles, couples without children are exactly in the same position. There was such a thing as the married mans allowance for tax relief on mortgages but this was scrapped to allow family tax credits. If you can only afford one child then only have one. I do not see why the rest of us should pay. How many people with large families do not work because they get more on benefits, while the rest of us idiots pay.
Reply:yep, it's the same over here. People with kids get all sorts of benefits, just because they managed to reproduce themselves. Let's not kid ourselves, putting kids on this world in not hard, even the biggest idiots can do it. No need to reward that, right?
