I'm seeking less than dating, but something more than friendship--perhaps a way to form a surrogate family of sorts as a single middle-aged man. Other cultures/times have had ways of binding singles together into family-like communities. What options exist in New York, other than living alone and relying on sporadic and ephemeral friendships? Ideally, I'd like a permanent group of mutually supportive like-minded (intellectual, liberal, compassionate) singles, either to live with, or spend meaningful supportive and fun time with.
