I am building my computer from the ground up. I ordered everything online, and I have one glitch...
The mother board I ordered supports dual channel memory, and the memory I ordered, unfortunately, is single channel. Would ordering another stick of the exact same single channel memory, when installed make it function as a dual channel set, if they are from the same manufacturer, timing, and are identical in every respect?
Or do I just return it, and order a dual channel set?
Single channel / Dual channel memory question?
Dual channel is the controller technology. You install matching pairs of dimms in the appropriate pairs of sockets. If all of the DIMMS are identical the motherboard will work in dual channel mode.
Reply:If you have a dual channel board you should have identical memory in each channel for stability reasons .
The only time you have to match capacity when installing RAM is when you're dealing with a system that requires dual channel memory.
I would get the dual channel set , just makes more sense
Reply:Just return it and order DDR2 ram
