How many single parents collect child support?

is it common for single parents to raise their children only on their income alone, not considering the other parent for one reason or another? Is this what people commonly think of when they hear the term "single parent"? Or, do MOST single parents collect child support and rely on it as part of their income?

How many single parents collect child support?
Yes, most single mothers ask for and get some amount of child support. Most fathers who get custody (least the ones I know) rarely ask for money from the mother and choose to be self-sufficient.

My personal view is that if you're married, the couple should agree on child support if they split up. However if you're single and made the sole decision to birth a child without any commitment or marriage, you shouldn't look for someone else to subsidize your decision.

Regardless of what you feel, people should not forget that to a child, the most important thing is LOVE not $$$. That's what's REALLY in the best interest of the child.
Reply:I got child support, although my (now) ex ripped me off badly and I let him get away with it out of fear. Still, without it things would have been even tougher than they were.
Reply:My ex is the most worthless man in the world. You would think I went to a sperm bank.
Reply:Many single aprents c ollect child support and righfully so, children need things and the other parent needs to help support the child. Collect the child support for the best interest of the child. Best Wishes!
Reply:I am a single mom with two boys. I had to do with my income only. My oldest son dad wasn't paying child support. He been not paying since it was order. He is now but not paying the full amount and my youngest son dad is paying. But if you a single mom you seem to get more help with the government. with the daycare cost and things. And get medical insurance

has well
Reply:In general it's best not to rely on it but unfortunately many people have to. Not just because your ex doesn't want to pay but also there is always the possibility that he may lose his job, be laid off, take a pay cut, etc. Even if you have the most cooperative ex in the world you still need to collect. Even if you don't "need" the money. If you don't need the money as part of your income to pay your bills you can always put the money aside for your child when he/she is older.
